Relaunch Contest Winners

Hey everyone!

Throughout the past couple week, I have been hosting a contest to celebrate the relaunch of my blog.  Wow! The support and response from all of you were amazing! Thanks to everyone who entered and for all the kind words you guys had. It really means a lot to me.

This is one of the largest contest responses I have ever had, with the exception of retweet contests on Twitter.  You guys had so many great ideas!  Some of them I will definitely be using in the future, but I am going to keep those a surprise for now.  Some ideas, while I thought they were great (such as a forum or cool graphics effects) are way beyond my current capabilities.  Just know that if you don't see your idea implemented, it doesn't mean I didn't like it.  And who knows, things could always change down the line.  I am going to keep all these ideas filed away for the future!

Anyway, onto the winners.  As I mentioned in the original contest post, this was a raffle. I entered everyone's names into a random list generator and the first three it gave back, in order are the winners.  So without further ado, here they are:

First Prize - Accursed Play Gauntlet
Alexander Skywalker

Second Prize - Battle Mage Keep
Sophia Rainbow

Third Prize - 5,000 Crowns
Brandon Nightdreamer

Congrats to all the winners! Your codes have been emailed to the address you used to enter. And thank you so much to everyone who entered!  Your ideas were all amazing!  Be sure to watch out for more contests in the future.  Also be sure to check out the stream I host with Edward Lifegem.  See you soon!

Halloween 2016 Scavenger Hunt Answers

Hey Everyone!

A couple weeks ago I had a series of Pirate101 Halloween contests.  Most of the contests consisted of me tweeting out coded messages and awarding a code to the first person to decode them.  I also had a Hide and Seek in game one day, a word search contest, and a retweet contest.  The final contest was a culmination of all these previous contests, a scavenger hunt that included all the previous codes, hide and seek, word search, as well as a retweet "step."

I had estimated that the scavenger hunt would last about 30-45 minutes. However, it took a little over an hour to get three winners.  Congrats to those three people, @Tallahasee79 (1st), @BrandonOwlSword (2nd), and @_ConfettiWap (3rd).

People have asked me to post the answers to the scavenger hunt, so here goes.  If you would like to see what the rules/requirements were, please use the link above to see them on the original post (under the schedule of contest days & times).  Also, please note that the links (not including the Twitter links) I describe in the descriptions below will no longer work, since the scavenger hunt is now over.  Ready? Here goes!

Before the Scavenger Hunt
The evening before the scavenger hunt, I made the following tweet with most of the ciphers people would need to complete the puzzles in the scavenger hunt. All of these ciphers had been used earlier in the week.

Here are better images of all the ciphers included in the above tweet:
Cipher #1
Cipher #2
Cipher #3
Cipher #4
Scavenger Hunt Part 1
Step A - On October 30th, the Scavenger Hunt started at the predetermined time with the following tweet:
Using Cipher #1, this says "Retweet this tweet and I will DM you the next clue. Good luck!"  As I saw people retweeting the tweet, I sent them the following DM (Direct Message) on twitter: "Go to the Contact Page on my site."  I am pretty sure most people figured out this code.  I had A LOT of DMs to send and to be fair, I sent them in the order people retweeted the tweet.

Step B - Once people went to the contact page, they could see the following coded message:
This message can be decoded using the following: Emoji=Letter, (#Emoji)=Number.  This is where a lot of people seemed to get stuck, so after 10-15 minutes, I started giving out hints.  I don't remember the order I gave the hints in, but eventually I told people that the first four characters spell "HOME."

The emojis are: Horse, Orange, Monkey, Envelope, Pig, Apple, Guitar, Envelope, (#3 music notes), Rainbow, Dog, Snake, Lemon, Ice cream, Dog, Envelope.

The key is to take the first letter of each emoji to spell a word and for the "number" count how many things the emoji represents.  So this message said "Home page 3rd slide." This meant to go to the home page of my blog and click on the third slide in the slideshow.  That would bring you to a page that no longer exists with the clue for the last step of Part #1.

Step C - This final step was the first of 3 hide and seeks.  The page that the previous clue brought people to had the following on it:
SVAQ ZR VA TNZR NAQ FNL NUBL!
This clue can be decoded using Cipher #2.  It says "Find me in game and say ahoy!"  The image shows a clue to the realm and the location.  I was hiding in Old Scratch realm in the witch doctor office aka Madame Vadima's Sanctum.  When people found me there and said "Ahoy" I gave them the first clue to the next part of the scavenger hunt.

Scavenger Hunt Part 2
Step A - The clue I gave to the people who found me at Madame Vadima's was "Go to the Pirate101 Guides page on my site."

Step B -  This brought them to a page with the following word search puzzle at the bottom:
Word List

_ _ _ A _ _

C _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ E

_ L _ _ _

_ _ _ T _ _

_ _ _ K

The words that needed to be found gave the clue to Step C: "Pirate Challenge Page Click Bottom Link."

Step C - Clicking the last link of the Pirate Challenge page, it would bring you to another Hide and Seek clue.
URMW NV ZMW HZB SVB YFXPL!
This clue can be solved using Cipher #3 and says "Find me and say hey Bucko!"  This Autumn was hiding in the Buccaneer office in Ratbeard realm.  When people found me and said "Hey Bucko" I gave them the first clue to the third and final part of the scavenger hunt.

Scavenger Hunt Part 3
Step A - The Autumn Walker hiding in Ratbeard realm, she told them "Go to the My Pirates page on my site."

Step B - This brought them to the following code, which could be deciphered using Cipher #4.
This code/cipher works like this: The shape shows you which letters to look at on the cipher.  The dot means use the second letter in that shape/area. No dot means use the first letter.  A "#" means use the number in that space. So the above code says: "Events Page Link 7" which means people needed to go to my Events page on my blog and click the seventh link.

Step C - The seventh link on the events page went to the final Hide and Seek.
..-. .. -. -.. / -- . / .- -. -.. / ... .- -.-- / -.. .. -.. / .. / .-- .. -. / -.-- . -
This code is Morse Code, which I did not provide a cipher for, since it is such a well known code.  There are numerous Morse Code translators out there that can be googled.  This code could be copied and pasted into a translator and tell you what it says, which is "Find me and say did I win yet." I was hiding in Avery's office in Avery realm.

That was pretty much the whole Scavenger Hunt.  When people found me and said the above phrase, I told them to take a picture with me and direct message it.  Once they did that I sent them one of the following three images to reply to my original/first clue tweet with.

These last two steps (with the screenshots and tweeting the images) allowed me to verify who had won and completed all the steps.  I was also watching and keeping a list of each pirate who found each of my characters in the correct order.  This allowed me to be more fair in case someone had somehow found the wrong Autumn at the wrong time or found a way to skip ahead (which did happen a few times.)  I would turn those people away and tell them to keep looking for the correct Autumn.

Anyway, I have had different types of scavenger hunts in the past, but none were this involved. I had a blast setting everything up and watching you all try to figure out the clues.  I hope you all had fun with it too, even though it was one of my harder contests.  Leave comments below and let me know if you think I should do something similar in the future, or if I should keep my contests more simple.  Thanks for reading! See you soon!

First Prize - Bloody Wesley Xavier
Smuggler's Cove House & House Space Elixer
Octoberpus Pet
5,000 Crowns

Every night around midnight, a faint organ sound can be heard drifting throughout Skull Island. It is said that if you follow the haunting melody, you may be lucky and find a lost chapel and it's one solitary inhabitant, a lone specter that haunts the grounds. Who, or what, is he? What does he want? Why does linger? No one can say.

Second Prize - Canny Kestrel Armstrong
Smuggler's Cover House & House Space Elixer
5,000 Crowns

This is my Haunted Halloween Circus. My spooky black tiger Lady Shadow asked me to recreate her childhood home in the circus. Like all circuses, no matter what the season, there is always something or someone scary tucked away into a tent. In this case it's the circus boss, Mister Chuckles. Lady Shadow loves Halloween.

Third Prize - Alex
Octoberpus Pet
5,000 Crowns

Hello and welcome to the official Haunted House of the year! Wait till you learn about our little buddy Fang the ghostly crab as he explores this house! The owner has put in many Halloween decorations this year! Some of these include some pumpkins,  Jack-o-rugs, and cobweb rugs! To make this haunted house extra spookier, the wall is completely covered with cobwebs and spooky masks! There is also some withered trees and a creepy fire! This haunted house will be sure to give you a fright!

Runner up - James Morgan
5,000 Crowns

Congrats to everyone who won, and thanks again for entering!  All of the codes have been emailed.  I will be giving away more codes on my twitter in the coming week, so be sure to watch.  Thanks for reading! :)

Holiday Tradition Contest Winners!

Ahoy everyone!

I hope you all had an amazing holiday! Even if you don't celebrate, I hope you had a great couple of weeks :) The Holiday Tradition Contest ended earlier today and I have chosen the winners.  They were chosen using random.org, so everyone who entered had an equal chance of winning one of the prizes. I wish I could have posted every entry on here, since they were all great, but that would have made this post incredibly long! Here are the winners, along with their entries:

Mistle Toad Companion & 10k Crowns (2 winners)
Clever Alex Nichols
My favourite part of the holidays is cooking Christmas Dinner + Dessert

James Morgan
My favorite family tradition is that everybody opens one present on Christmas Eve, and we get to pick any present to open. After opening presents we get to eat Christmas cookies.

Prince Yulefest Companion & 2.5k Crowns (4 winners)
Layne Lavish
My holiday tradition for X-mas is taking a family photo. My family and I dress up as Santa or the elves ,and my pets dress up as reindeers. After that, we send our family photo to our friends and family.

David Everhart
My favorite holiday traditions are decorating the Christmas tree and opening all the gifts under the tree on Christmas day.

Fearless Andrea Kelly
My favorite holiday tradition is Christmas breakfast - every year, I drive up to my parents' house and when I get there, they have laid out a spread of food like you wouldn't believe. We have shrimp, homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, breakfast pastries, bacon, eggs, fresh squeezed juice, coffee, lutfisk and rye toast (it's a Swedish thing that I'm not a big fan of but it's a tradition and my mother loves it), as well as my family's famous mint bars. The best part is that it's all laid out on top of a tablecloth made by my great-grandmother, who emigrated here from Sweden in the early 1800's with my great-grandfather (who was named Jack Frost, no joke). On the tablecloth, she stitched the words "Nu är det jul igen" which is Swedish for "Now it is Christmas again." There is absolutely nothing that says Christmas to me like eating Christmas breakfast and seeing that family heirloom and appreciating that it has lasted for over 150 years and someday I'll be able to use it when I have kids and we have our Christmas breakfast.

Dead-Eye Destiny Devereaux
Every year, I walk out into the town and go to the frou-frou garden store - about a fifteen-minute walk - to look at the annual trending decorations. I sample hot chocolate and buy pastries almost every year, but I always make sure to buy myself a single holiday ornament. Not one that I choose out of those that I like, necessarily, but one that has meaning towards the trip. Last year, a child had dropped an ornament; I had picked it up and stuck around, but the the child never returned. This year, my dog pulled me into the display with this year's ornament on it.

One Random Yuletide Pet & 1k Crowns(7 winners)
Cunning Amber Silver
One of my favourite holiday traditions is actually at school: when fundraisers of all sorts are held to raise money for those in need this Christmas. For example, this month our school sold Water Rafiki Friend Chains that would go directly to building schools for children in Africa.I believe education is one of the most important aspects in life, and I love how the holiday spirit reveals the true generosity in everybody

William Blake
At my family home at Christmas we have a fairly traditional Christmas, mum makes Christmas cakes and mince pies, dad makes bad jokes and my brothers make a mess. Over the year one thing that has become a kind of tradition is that we all bring a new contribution to decorate the Christmas tree. It means that the tree is a complete mixture of different styles and sizes of decorations but it is unique and just ours. This year have been added a giraffe with bells for feet by mum, a purple elephant by dad, a tiny cup & saucer with holly on by brother 1, a wooden angel by brother 2 and finally today I will be adding a felt robin. I know this seems like a strange Christmas tradition to other people but it's ours and it means every tiny ornament on the tree holds a multitude of memories.

Romantic Rebecca Irving
My family's holiday tradition is that we go see a play of the birth of Jesus and after that we go have hot chocolate and then we normally watch home alone.

Bloody Wesley Xavier
My favorite holiday tradition is Cookie Day. Every year, about a week before Christmas, my mom bakes 6 dozen different cookies in preparation for Cookie Day. On Cookie Day, my family gathers at Mom's house and Mom has a table in the kitchen covered in flour, anise cookie dough, and cookie cutters. Every makes cookies and Mom bakes them. Everybody is talking, laughing, and having a great time. While the last batch is baking, the family gathers at the dining table for lunch. After lunch, Mom makes anise frosting and everyone frosts and decorates the cookies. My sister, niece, and aunt always end up wearing frosting after one of them starts a frosting war. Afterwards, Mom hands out containers of all the different cookies, including the ones the family helped with. This day has always brought the family together and to this day remains one of my favorite days of the entire year.

Antonio
Since my family doesn't celebrate Christmas, we tend to have a magical and fun night for New Years Eve. Our whole family gathers up in one house, the children bring sweets, chips, juices and go to one room to have fun, while the parents are in the other room and talk their lungs out. Almost every year, all of us (kids) like to come up with an idea to surprise the parents and make them laugh, so this year they planned to immitate the parents and see how they react. Oh, did I mention, the mothers make cakes and cookie, and yum yum yum, pies! After we make the parents laugh, we return to our room and play some games on our phones, laptops or just joke around. When the clock ticks midnight, we go outside and watch the fireworks (we love fireworks) then the parents take us with their cars to the town, so we can see all the stuff that is happening. Lots of people go outside and parade through the streets in their own styles, some walk, some run, some even dance (even though it's freezing outside).

Sneaky Kevin Newell
My favorite holiday tradition is the extended family coming over for Christmas. While it may sound simple, the one thing that I feel everyone should have with them during the holidays is their family. That's what's most important, isn't it?

Two-Faced Anne
My top tradition for the Christmas season is spending time with my family and friends. Gifts can be forgotten or lost, ornaments broken, and cookies all eaten, but the memories made with those most precious to me will always last. If I only had 'one' Christmas tradition I could carry out, it would be time with my family and friends every year!

One random Yuletide pet & a chance at a holiday companion (10 winners)
Victor Hawkins
My favorite holiday tradition? It's the dinner time, and not because of the food, but because of the reunion, the harmony in the family and being thanks of having such privileges, the faces of joy of seeing their whole family grouped up and with a sense of happiness is the most wonderful time of the Holidays.

Lucky Donovan Debouff
As long as I can remember, baking has been one of the biggest traditions our family upholds during Christmas and one of my favorite holiday traditions! My mother and my grandmother have passed on all the recipes for the cookies, candies, cakes, pies, pastries, doughnuts, and other goodies, which I now bake in my own little kitchen. Of course, I love to bake year round, but there are some recipes that are special for Christmas alone!

Fearless Xavier Black
The year I was born, my mother purchased an advent calendar. Every night in December, we would read one window, until December 25th, which was Christmas day! It was a fun way to count down to Christmas, and my siblings and I always looked forward to it each year.

Charming Arthur Burton
My favorite holiday tradition is shopping for my family and friends presents the day before Christmas or making home made presents that they always love, and it puts a smile on my face when i make them happy.

Humble Brandon Quincy
My favorite holiday tradition is lighting the Menorah on each evening of Hanukkah, and then opening the presents afterwards.

Witty Alura
I have a lot of different Christmas traditions, but my favorite is getting the family together and doing something to make life easier for other people. Instead of doing Secret Santa and trading cookies like a lot of people I know, I ask my friends and family to make a difference in the lives of the  needy in this time of the year. This year, we made clothes-pin angels to give to our community nursing home. I can't say I made up the idea. My brother's boy scout troop did this years ago. I asked my family to help me make these angels. we went to the store and bought the material, and I set up shop making them. Sadly, my stepmom will only let me make 30 angels, but I'm willing to get my friends to make more for this cause. I  know how it feels to be unlucky and unhappy for Christmas, and I just want to let people know they're not alone.

Loyal Martin Xavier
Every year my family and I come together on Christmas and give gifts to kids who can't afford gifts. We give special Christmas presents to the kids at the orphanage. When we buy gifts we make sure we buy the best gifts for them. To do this we spend time with the kids on December 15th and find out what they are interested in and then on 21st we usually donate the gifts to them. Every Christmas like this always makes me happy thinking about how I did something special for other people who couldn't buy their own gifts. They usually send my family and I letters after Christmas about how we made their Christmas awesome!

Chris
I live in Greece so we have some traditions different from your's. In my country every Christmas morning we go from house to house and sing the Christmas carols, and then the house wife gives us some money. After we finish it, we all meet in somebody's house and count the total of the money, and everybody gets a fair amount of money. Christmas carols are different in every area of Greece, as they have religious content. We also eat pork or other meat instead of turkey. I like many other traditions, but this is my favourite (the one with Christmas carols).

Fearless Morgan
My two best friends and I get together each year before Christmas for a wrapping party. Like me, they both hate wrapping presents, but when you turn it into a special event, we all look forward to it. We rotate houses each year and order the family out for the day. One of the "guests" is in charge of coffee and donuts (and sometimes mimosas), and the other "guest" is in charge of lunch. The hostess provides her house, snacks and drinks. We each bring our stash of Christmas wrapping paper, bows, tape and scissors and we go to town for the day with the Christmas music cranked on the stereo. We've been doing it for the last three years and it has easily become one of my favorite holiday traditions.

Holly Silver
One of our family's most loved holiday tradition is opening up one present on Christmas Eve.  It's really fun to get something early before the next day comes with all of Santa's presents.

Congrats to all the winners, and thanks to everyone who entered! It was so much fun to read everyone's awesome traditions!  The winners have already had their codes emailed to the email they used to enter the contest.  I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New Year!  See you......NEXT YEAR! :)

Volunteers Wanted

Ahoy!

As some of you may have  heard, I have released the schedule of events for the 12 Days of Autumn Celebration.  If you would like to see it, you can view it here.  Anyway, I am looking for some volunteers to help with the Skull Island Scavenger Hunt.  I am hoping this event will be a lot of fun and unique, but I need some help to make it that way.  If you are interested, please read the requirements/guidelines below very carefully and then you can complete the form.  I will be contacting the volunteers a few days before the event with all the details.

Requirements

  • Available Sunday, September 29, 2013 from 5:30pm eastern until 7:00pm eastern.  The ending time may vary, but I'm not expecting the event to last more than an hour. It may be much less than that.
  • Able to be online uninterrupted, as you will need to give out your clue whenever someone finds you. This means you will have to be paying attention at all times.
  • Have room on your account to make a new pirate and level it to level 2.  Please do not add anyone to your friends list before the event.
  • Have access to the whole world of Skull Island, either through membership or crowns.
  • Have either text chat or open chat, since you will be giving out clues to people.
  • Be able to interact with other people in a nice/polite/family friendly manner.
So those are the requirements. If you are still interested, fill out the form below and submit it to me.  Since people who volunteer will not be able to compete in this event, there will be some sort of compensation, but I haven't decided what yet.  However, please only volunteer if you would truly like to help out, not because I may gift you. :)

Arrrgust Contest #2 Winners

Ahoy!

All the entries for my Arrrgust Dorm decorating contest have been received and looked at, and I have chosen the four winners.  All the entries were great!  I loved seeing everyone's creativity!  However, I only have four prizes left to give out, so I had to choose.  I based the entries off of creativity, overall decorating, the description and how well people followed the contest rules. Here are the winners:

Grand Prize
1 Random Class House + Pack O Porters + 10,000 Crowns
Dead Eye Justin
I love to hang out in my birthplace of Marleybone. But since it's captivated in war I made my last trip to Marleybone to get some mementos and bring them to my own home! From Marleybone I brought with me, couches, flags, a piano, maps, and fancy wallpaper! When I sit down at my desk I imagine I'm back in the Admiralty Foyer........ahhhh...........the memories. I also share my dorm with my best bud. Handsome Dan, or as I like to call him, Peanut Butter. One day we'll move back to our homeland.

First Prize
Pack O Porters + 7,500 Crowns
Autumn Starwalker
Where my pirate calls home  she has a collection of her favorite items collected  from all through the spiral. This is her pirate's sweet getaway she spends her days and nights along with her favorite first mate over for a cup of tea and they share tales about their great adventures.

Second Prize
Pack O Porters + 5,000 Crowns
Captain Richard Sharp

This is where my pirates like to relax after a hard days piratin'; at their very own tavern. Here they share their adventure stories over a tankard of yum. Of course the furniture doesn't match because it just things they've looted or cobbled together from driftwood. Regardless it's the place the think of as home.

Third Prize
2,500 Crowns
Hunter

I think pirates will like to spend their time and relax. My room makes you feel like you're outside. There's lots of cool looking stuff to sit and relax from all the hard work of pirating around the spiral. You will feel so welcome in my dorm room you will be jumping for joy!

Congrats to the winners! You will be receiving your codes shortly via the email you submitted your entries through.  And thanks to everyone who entered! Be sure to watch for more contests to be announced soon!  See you in the spiral! :)
